#RomanticFridayWriters - #AtoZChallenge - Dribbles, Drabbles and Droubbles - Flash Fiction No 1 - A is for '...and that's the way it happened...'

Welcome to RomanticFridayWriters!

RFW is about short short writing or flash fiction (usually 400 words), less for poems, with some romantic element. It's not Romance of the happily ever after variety, but Romantic, where it's about the story, the issue, with some romantic relationship involved. Our stories are edgy, sometimes dark, and often don't have the HEA ending!

The fortnightly prompts are in hiatus while RFW participates in the A - Z Challenge. Challenges begin again on May 4 (see sidebar prompt). During April you will find stories from 50 - 200 words (in the interests of a quick read so you can move onto the next post!) Most of the posts will be penned by Denise Covey as she just decided overnight to do this, but other RFW members will be popping in from time to time to post their stories I hope...

So here we go! RFW Dribbles (50 words), Drabbles (100 words) and Droubbles (200 words) and more (400 ish)...for your enjoyment - a laugh, a cry...

It's widely agreed that most fiction (unless it's solely about animals) begins and ends with human characters: their frailties, virtues, conflicts and expectations. In our stories for the A - Z Challenge the writers attempt to more closely observe the people around us...

A is for...

'...and that's the way it was,' he said, his eyes begging understanding.

'I find it hard to believe, Joshua. That's the most imaginative reason I've ever heard for standing up a date. And I put aside 4 hours to meet you as instructed by Online Ontime Dating Service.'

'Well, don't you ever have to sort out a tussle between warring vampires before you head off to dinner?'

'No, can't say I have. My particular tussle is between my two hysterical historical characters whose itchy fingers reach for the duelling pistols to settle every argument. I want to keep that hot duelling scene for the climax but they won't have it! I'm afraid they'll turn the pistols on me!'

'That's the trouble with those old dudes. Well, my dudes are older, but my vamps have moved beyond archaic duelling pistols. Mine have a laser gun fetish.'

'Well, it seems we each have our troubles. Anyway, I need a feed before I get back to my noblemen of Regency England and you probably need a feed before you get back to microwaved blood and mayhem in whatever part of the world you've chosen to set your scenes.'

'Ancient Europe. Can't beat it for bloodthirstyness. Great. See that red light? There's a little diner up the road. We can catch breakfast instead of dinner. Can you set aside another 4 hours?'

  9. Hi Denise
Oh boy, I thought he meant the real thing at first or was off his rocker. But two writers? That's a dinner, or breakfast I'd love to share.

  10. Dear Denise,
I'm late with my comments, I know. But I will try to catch up with, at least, what you and the other RFWers are doing in April.

My theme for A to Z is not writing at all, but images of things that can be bought on Etsy, jewellery, clothes, toys, art, anything handmade or vintage. At the same time I try to use colours as themes for the different letters or anything related to jewellery-making such as gems. But I don't write as much about it as I had hoped that I would. The Etsy treasuries have taken time to do, inspite of the fact that I have done a lot of work ahead of time in March.

I have as of today, all of my posts, including the letter W, ready and scheduled. So I will be able make the challenge. Now I just have to try to visit more blogs.

I have been writing a little, but not as much as you have.

I still have to deal with the tax people. So I probably should not have even thought of doing the A to Z.

    -----

What a fun story. Too writers on a date! I have imagined having my characters meet characters of other RFWers. And I have been inspired to try new things after reading for example Roland's stories about the undead, ghosts and vampires. It was Roland that got me started on faeries and then I discovered what an excellent fantasy writer Nancy is. So I am trying to learn something from different people.

I'll be back later or tomorrow.

    Take care.
    Best wishes,
    Anna
